It's time the United States kissed and made up with Iran.(1987, Letter to the Editor)

It's time the United States kissed and made up with Iran.(1987, Letter to the Editor)

November 5, 1987

Letter to The Kansan, Lawrence Kansas:

It's time the United States kissed and made up with Iran. Face it, we need their oil, and we need

translations for their torture manuals. The U.S. could learn a lot from Iran and their methods of

dealing with "deviants." Although the U.S. has been oozing down escalator of individual

freedom at a pretty decent rate for a capitalistic dictatorship, we'll need diesel-powered sneakers

to revert to the modern-day practices of Iran.

     I'm sure we can do it and you, the voter, are just the person to tie those red-white-n'blue laces.

Do it nice and tight like a noose or corset.

     A headline on October 13 read "Iranian executed by stoning." This immediately piqued my

hope for mankind. I mean, how often do you actually get to read about first-rate, modern-day

Salems? Top notch coverage, eh?

     The story reported that an Iranian clergyman was executed by stoning after being found guilty

of "gross immorality, drinking alcohol, possessing narcotics." Whew, and they say you can't have

a good time in Tehran!

     But think about how the United States could benefit in adopting such a policy.

     It's obvious that the first to go would have to be the door-to-door salesmen/evangelists such

as Jim Baker and ol' Oral. And if we took Reagan's Cabinet and staff members, we'd find ourselves

being ruled by the White House hairdresser------maybe we already are.

     McFarlane failed at overdosing on sleeping pills, and Reagan has to be shovel-fed uppers to

stay awake and man the Red Button. Poindexter reeled off close to 190 "I don't remembers"

during the Contra-expose, leaving him buried in a heavy heap of fraud. North and his cast of

millions, formerly lead by Bill Casey, or whomever of the Chronically Ignorant Agency, are still

thumbing through the land-mine section of a Sear's catalog, looking to lose some Swiss change.

     Taking this lot of losers and judging them as one big Incompetent, we find ourselves looking

for bricks and smiling. And we don't need to stop with the government and pulpit; we can just

go down the line and kill ourselves as well.

     Maybe the U.S. could open dialogue with the moderates of Iran if we sent them midnight

shipments of sandstone and granite. But then, we never know when we may need the stones

to build our own Berlinese Wall over the rights of the individual.

     Nancy must have gotten quite a shock when she read the aforementioned headlines about

executions by stoning: "Those drug-pushing fanatics, O heavens those barbarians!" She

undoubtedly fails to think of the way in which our country murders its own citizens. We stone

them to death using lethal intravenous---heinous injections-----everything is tidy and quiet.

     What an awesome head rush.

     It all boils down to something similar to this: Our governments are closet sado-masochists.

The U.S. hangs around the schoolyard after dark, knowing well the fanatical bully is walking

toward visionary Mecca at all times. Then we find Iran dropping firecrackers at our nuclear

tugboats and planting whoopie-cushion mines before our microscopic omnipotent eyes.

     We just need to form a corporate merger and be friends again. They need McDonalds like

the plague, and we could learn the mechanics of happy genocide.

Other characters from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

 Other characters from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

(in order of appearance)

____

"Alice’s sister (Chapter 1, 12); in the beginning of the story she’s reading a very boring book (according to Alice). In the end Alice wakes up in her lap and tells her her adventures. She is presented as a reasonable adult, who, in the end, recognizes Alice’s own adult-like qualities. Note that the real Alice’s older sister, Lorina, was actually only 3 years her senior.

Dinah (Chapter 1, 2, 3, 4); she is Alice’s cat. She isn’t physically there in the book but Alice talks about her many times, especially about the fact that she is good at hunting and killing animals. Therefore she does play an important role.

Mouse (Chapter 2, 3); this is one of the creatures that fell into the pool of Alice’s tears. He tries to dry the others by telling them the driest story he knows.

Duck (Chapter 2, 3); he also fell into Alice’s pool of tears. He is said to be modeled after Canon Duckworth (see the Story Origins section).

Dodo (Chapter 2, 3); another creature that fell into the pool. He suggests to do a Caucusrace to get dry. He is said to be modeled after Dodgson (Carroll) himself (see the Story Origins section).

Lory (Chapter 2, 3); Also fell into the pool. She is said to be modeled after Alice’s sister, Lorina (see the Story Origins section).

Eaglet (Chapter 2, 3); Also fell into the pool. She is said to be modeled after Alice’s other sister, Edith (see the Story Origins section).

Old Crab with daughter, several birds (among them a Magpie and a Canary with kids) (Chapter 3); they are also part of the party that fell into Alice’s pool of tears.

Mary Ann (Chapter 4); the White Rabbit’s housemaid. She isn’t physically there in the book but the Rabbit mistakes Alice for her.

Pat (Chapter 4); an employee of the White Rabbit. The Rabbit orders him to get Alice’s arm out of his window.

Bill (Chapter 4, 11, 12); he is a lizard and also employed by the White Rabbit. He has to go down the chimney to get Alice out. Later he is a member of the jury during the trial.

2 Guinea pigs (Chapter 4); they are part of the group that tries to get Alice out of the Rabbit’s house.

Puppy (Chapter 4); very playful, and as Alice is very small he almost runs her over.

Pigeon (Chapter 5); she mistakes Alice for a serpent because of her long neck. She tries to protect her eggs.

Frog-Footman (Chapter 6); he serves at the house of the Duchess.

Fish-Footman (Chapter 6); he brings an invitation from the Queen to the Duchess’ house.

Duchess (Chapter 6, 8, 9); she is very ugly and mistreats her baby. She is also fond of finding morals in things. She tries to be in everyone’s good books (especially the Queen’s one) by acting very complimentary.

Baby/pig (Chapter 6); as a baby it constantly howls and sneezes because of the pepper. When Alice takes it outside it turns into a pig.

Cook (Chapter 6, 11); she makes soup with too much pepper and throws things at the Duchess, the baby and Alice. Later she is a witness in the trial.

March Hare (Chapter 7, 11); he is holding a tea party with the Hatter and the Dormouse. The party will continue forever, as they live in a frozen time. Later on, the March Hare is a witness during the trial.

Dormouse (Chapter 7, 11); another member of the tea party and witness. He constantly falls asleep and is mistreated by the Hare and the Hatter. In the first editions of the story the Dormouse is referred to as ‘it’, but since the 1897 edition the Dormouse is also sometimes being referred to as ‘he’, establishing it as a male character.

Elsie, Lacie and Tillie (Chapter 7); they are three sisters in the Dormouse’s story. They live in a treacle well. It is said that they represent the Liddell sisters (see Story Origins page).

Five, Seven and Two (Chapter 8); they are playing cards and the Queen’s gardeners. They’re painting roses red because they planted white ones by mistake.

Knave of Hearts (Chapter 8, 11, 12); he carries the crown and is later accused of stealing tarts.

King of Hearts (Chapter 8, 9, 11, 12); The Queen of Hearts’ incompetent husband. She completely dominates him. The King doesn’t have much notion of how a trial works, but is rather stubborn.

Flamingos and hedgehogs (Chapter 8, 9); they are used as mallets and balls during the game of croquet. From the text in ‘Nursery Alice’ we know that at least one of them was red.

Gryphon (Chapter 9, 10, 11); he takes Alice to the Mock Turtle. With him he explains the Lobster Quadrille to Alice.

Mock Turtle (Chapter 9, 10); he seems to be very sad and constantly sobs. He tells Alice about his schooldays.

Jurors (Chapter 11, 12): twelve creatures act as members of the jury during the trial of the stolen tarts. Among them is Bill, the lizard.

2 Guinea-pigs (Chapter 11); they are being suppressed during the trial for cheering."

From a Country Tenant to the same Purpose.

Honoured Sir,

The Season has been so bad, and I have had such unhappy Accidents to encounter with in a sick Family, Loss of Cattle, &c. that I am obliged to trespass upon your Patience a Month or two longer. The Wheat-harvest, I hope, will furnish me the Means to answer your just Expectations; which will be a great Contentment to

Your honest Tenant, and humble Servant.

The Landlord's Answer.

Mr. Jacobs,

I have yours: I hope you’ll be as good as your Word at the Expiration of the Time you have mentioned. I am unwilling to distress any honest Man; and I hope, that I shall not meet with the worse Usage for my Forbearance. For Lenity abused, even in generous Tempers, provokes Returns, that some People would call severe; but should not be deemed such, if just. I am

The Frenchified Lady Never in Paris

"Lord, how reformed and quiet are we grown,

Since all our braves and all our wits are gone!

Fop-corner now is free from civil war,

White-wig and vizard make no longer jar.

France, and the fleet, have swept the town so clear,

That we can act in peace, and you can hear.

'Twas a sad sight, before they marched from home,

To see our warriors in red waistcoats come,

With hair tucked up, into our tireing-room.

But 'twas more sad to hear their last adieu:

The women sobbed, and swore they would be true;

And so they were, as long as e'er they could,

But powerful guinea cannot be withstood,

And they were made of play-house flesh and blood.

Fate did their friends for double use ordain;

In wars abroad they grinning honour gain,

And mistresses, for all that stay, maintain.

Now they are gone, 'tis dead vacation here,

For neither friends nor enemies appear.

Poor pensive punk now peeps ere plays begin,

Sees the bare bench, and dares not venture in;

But manages her last half-crown with care,

And trudges to the Mall, on foot, for air.

Our city friends so far will hardly come,

They can take up with pleasures nearer home;

And see gay shows, and gaudy scenes elsewhere;

For we presume they seldom come to hear.

But they have now ta'en up a glorious trade,

And cutting Morecraft struts in masquerade.

There's all our hope, for we shall shew to-day

A masking ball, to recommend our play;

Nay, to endear them more, and let them see

We scorn to come behind in courtesy,

We'll follow the new mode which they begin,

And treat them with a room, and couch within:

For that's one way, howe'er the play fall short,

To oblige the town, the city, and the court."

" Morecraft, an usurer, turns a cutter, or, as we now say, a buck.

Dryden seems to allude to Ravenscroft's play of "The Citizen
turned Gentleman," a transmigration as here insinuated."

Can a bus be late? It arrives or not. It may arrive but keep driving past. We may not notice the bus passing us. Purrrspective.

Did I coin that word? Maybe it has been printed elsewhere. Maybe it was coined only in some mind somewhere. Maybe it passed unnoticed with no tracks.

Is it a thought game or a thought sport. Maybe a thought exercise.  Maybe inadvertent or intentional.

Is the violin in tune. First the strings must be made to register sound. A violin at rest in a closed case is the same as a violin on a table in a concert hall. We don't need an arbiter, machine, Geiger counter, or cat monitor in this model.

Is Oklahoma hot? Grab the panhandle. Is that A joke. Depends on purrrspective.

Is Oklahoma in tune? Sure, with itself. Feedback aside, stomping and clapping only rattle the pork chops in the pan. Mixed metaphors create funny jokes. It's a process, the bus is on my time. It conforms to expectation. Robert Anton Wilson is still dead but who ever met him. I mean, really met him.  Not Itzhak Perlman, or Einstein, probably.

Ashberry gets it, it gets you. It's college date conversation. The grade school kids with a skateboard and arm in a cast get it, they're ditching school. One heads north, the the other east. Can't catch us both.

Get your stories straight, measles on Monday won't compute or conform. You only have red dots on your arms from pork grease splatter, sharpies. Inside jokes are inside jobs, ask mom 1 and mom 2.

Just asking about hooky will distort the experiment. Truancy is still on the half life side of learning, the cast teaches not the child but the violinist. Morbidity makes for a parable to prove physics, sic, mortality. Harp strings, fiddle strings, same angel devil. Every atom a clutz on an eggshell trampoline. Birth is going too far, on schedule or not.

Content or contentious, choose. Is the caboose late if the engine decides. Neither paradox nor oxymoron, reality dresses us that way, we dress reality that way.

It's rhetorical, this dialectic dial tone, comfort. The matrix hum delivers understanding, understanding deliverance address. Circular logic may be influenced by geometry we employ or use as temporary framework. The five point star circumference tabulated by ones gut button.

Cognitive Chinese warfare

"Cognitive warfare—controlling others’ mental states and behaviors by manipulating environmental stimuli—is a significant and ever-evolving issue in global conflict and security, especially during the COVID-19 crisis.

 In this article, we aim to contribute to the field by proposing a two-dimensional framework to evaluate China's cognitive warfare and explore promising ways of counteracting it. We first define the problem by clarifying relevant concepts and then present a case study of China's attack on Taiwan.

 Next, based on predictive coding theory from the cognitive sciences, we offer a framework to explain how China's cognitive warfare works and to what extent it succeeds.

 We argue that this framework helps identify vulnerable targets and better explains some of the conflicting data in the literature. Finally, based on the framework, we predict China's strategy and discuss Taiwan's options in terms of cognitive and structural interventions."

https://academic.oup.com/jogss/article/7/4/ogac016/6647447

"Not only did Russia meddle with the US presidential elections and the United Kingdom's Brexit vote (Silverstein 2019), China has also interfered in Australia and New Zealand (Kelton et al. 2019) and discredited Taiwan's COVID‐19 management (Lin 2021; Lin et al. 2022).

Cognitive warfare is a special threat to democracies;

 the freedom of expression is abused and undermined by disinformation (Sloss 2020).

 It is thus an emerging issue that needs to be seriously dealt with."

"While cognitive warfare is a significant phenomenon, there is not yet agreement about the concept itself;

moreover, it is often entangled with notions such as information warfare and cyberspace warfare.

 For example, Libicki (1995) argues that information warfare consists of seven components (i.e.,

 command-and-control warfare,

 intelligence-based warfare,

 electronic warfare,

 psychological warfare,

hacker warfare,

economic information warfare, and cyberwarfare),

 in which cognitive manipulation falls under the category of psychological warfare.

 Tashev, Purcell, and McLaughlin (2019) argue that the cognitive dimension is the upmost aspect of the information space.

 In addition, according to Connell and Vogler's (2017) study of Kremlin's disinformation, cyberwarfare contains cognition manipulation as a key element.

 Lewis (2018) also emphasizes the cognitive effect in cyberattacks. However, others hold that cognition control is not limited to information warfare or cyberwarfare.

Siman-Tov (2019) analyzes that many political methods (propaganda, public relations, and public diplomacy) can be utilized to influence cognition.

 Rogers (2021, 81) maintains that “the conflation of operational information warfare with cognitive warfare is a category error that must be addressed first.”

Bernal et al. (2020) distinguish cognitive warfare from information warfare;

while the latter focuses on controlling the flow of information, the former aims to control the responses of individuals and groups to the presented information.

 That is, there is no consensus about the very concept yet.

To prevent confusion, in this article, we offer a working definition

of cognitive warfare

 as activities undertaken to manipulate environmental stimuli to control the mental states and behaviors of enemies as well as followers in both hot and cold wars.

Accordingly, while cyberwarfare can spread disinformation, it mainly attacks an enemy's infrastructure or steals intelligence in practical ways

 (e.g., distributed denial-of-service attacks), and web security is a crucial issue in this field (Andress and Winterfeld 2013; Robinson, Jones, and Janicke 2015).

 Information warfare targets human decision-makers,

which can be launched via online social media

and offline interpersonal networks

 (Ventre 2016; Libicki 2020; Prier 2020; Di Pietro, Caprolu, and Cresci 2021)

as well as distorting voters epistemically and emotionally

(de Buitrago 2019; Serrano-Puche 2021).

Compared to information warfare, cognitive warfare extends from focusing on media control to brain control; it depends more on neurological resources than just mass communication techniques (dit Avocat 2021).

 For example, it does not only focus on the input (information flow) alone but also on the cognitive system and its output (behaviors), such as manipulating the brain's system 1 (e.g., nudging) or system 2 (e.g., coercion) to steer enemies’ perception and behaviors.

 Its research also involves neuroscientific explanations at the subpersonal level,1 in contrast to personal- and interpersonal-level analyses in information warfare.

 Moreover, it can be integrated with other means (e.g., diplomacy, economic warfare, military operations) to enable hybrid warfare (Pocheptsov 2018).

 Cognitive warfare also resembles influence warfare in its effects. Therefore, although all of them—cyberwarfare, information warfare, cognitive warfare, and hybrid warfare—contain the element of influence operations and may impact human cognition, only cognitive warfare is specifically dedicated to brain control by incorporating weaponized neuroscience into various practices.

The relationship among the concepts stipulated in this article is illustrated in figure 1.

the recent literature, particularly addressing this issue, dit Avocat (2021) explains how cognitive warfare evolves and why it may fuel future conflicts in our highly connected world.

To counteract it, she calls for technological innovations to

 detect deepfakes,

 ethical regulation of weaponized neuroscience, and geopolitical solutions for better governance.

2Silverstein (2019), proposing a neuroscientific approach to national security, analyzes psychological factors

 (e.g., assimilation,

cognitive dissonance,

 and the availability heuristic in belief formation)

 and environmental factors (e.g., the effects of liberalism and social networking in the context of globalization) that may augment the harm of cognitive warfare.

She recommends that

 the public be skeptical of the information presented

and that governments enact laws regulating tech giants (Silverstein 2019).

Pocheptsov (2018) investigates how cognitive bias is heightened by mass media.

He presents a case study of how Russia uses tailored news and negative images to bewilder Ukraine.

Likewise, Waltzman (2017) warns against cognitive hacking; an audience's mental state can be easily manipulated when the disinformation appeals to existing fears and anxieties.

 The fake news that Obama was injured in White House explosions, tweeted by a hijacked Associated Press account in 2013, led to a $136 billion drop in and recovery of equity market value in only five minutes.

Thus, “cognitive security” in the era of weaponized information should be well managed.

In addition, Kania and Wood (2021) argue that China, learning from Russia and the United States, is developing offensive strategies and capabilities for hybrid warfare and has used them in counterterrorism drills in Xinjiang and crackdowns in Hong Kong.

 China is also focusing on counterhybrid warfare, reflecting fears of the United States using the same tactics. against it.

 Beauchamp-Mustafaga (2019) argues that China, alerted by the Arab Spring, started exploiting social media to influence adversary public opinion.

 Although psychological warfare has been prioritized by the People's Liberation Army (PLA), it remains in the early stages of development because of inconsistent terminology and the literature on self-perceived shortcomings. Finally, Burke et al. (2020) review the military theory and strategic guidelines behind Beijing's idea of

 information dominance, where big data and artificial intelligence (AI) play important roles in winning the war. By combining cyber data with electromagnetic and space warfare information,

 China aims

to steer enemy perception

 in the desired direction...

Be gods in senates, but be mortals here.

 As from a darken'd room some optic glass

Transmits the distant species as they pass

(The world's large landscape is from far descried

And men contracted on the paper glide),

Thus crowded Oxford represents mankind

And in these walls Great Britain seems confin'd.

Oxford is now the public theater,

And you both audience are and actors here.

The gazing world on the new scene attend,

Admire the turns, and wish a prosp'rous end.

This place, the seat of peace, the quiet cell

Where arts remov'd from noisy business dwell,

Should calm your wills, unite the jarring parts,

And with a kind contagion seize your hearts:

O may its genius like soft music move

And tune you all to concord and to love!

Our ark that has in tempests long been toss'd

Could never land on so secure a coast.

From hence you may look back on civil rage

And view the ruins of the former age.

Here a new world its glories may unfold

And here be sav'd the remnants of the old.

But while your days on public thoughts are bent,

Past ills to heal and future to prevent,

Some vacant hours allow to your delight:

Mirth is the pleasing business of the night,

The king's prerogative, the people's right.

Were all your hours to sullen cares confin'd,

The body would be jaded by the mind.

'Tis wisdom's part betwixt extremes to steer:

Be gods in senates, but be mortals here

THE EPILOGUE SPOKEN TO THE KING AT THE OPENING OF THE PLAYHOUSE AT OXFORD ON SATURDAY LAST, BEING MARCH THE NINETEENTH, 1681

Troilus and Cressida, act 3, scene ii (1679)

 Can life be a blessing,

Or worth the possessing,

Can life be a blessing, if love were away?

Ah, no! tho' our love all night keep us waking,

And tho' he torment us with cares all the day,

Yet he sweetens, he sweetens our pains in the taking;

There's an hour at the last, there's an hour to repay.

II

In every possessing,

The ravishing blessing,

In every possessing the fruit of our pain,

Poor lovers forget long ages of anguish,

Whate'er they have suffer'd and done to obtain;

'T is a pleasure, a pleasure to sigh and to languish,

When we hope, when we hope to be happy again.

I'm resting and keeping warm at the park, a wool blanket over my legs, sitting up using a tree for my back. Across the field a SUV parks, out comes a heavy limping person, she releases her two large dogs. They're 100 yards away. The dogs roam freely the leash-only grass, it's a nice spring day. I'm reading an article on my computer-phone camera-recorder-encyclopedia. One dog approaches, circles my tree, gives me an inquisitive look. I say hello, it trots off. The other dog, a german shepherd approaches, nears me and after staring a few seconds gives a loud bark. They're a 100 pound dog, 3 feet away. Their owner is putting their shit bag in the trash can, 15 feet away. What do you want, off leash dog? They're not a problem until they're a problem. My attention returns to the article. It's politically slanted. Violence isn't a Republican, Democrat phenomena, a waxing and waning. It's a deep sniff, pheromones, eye contact, domination, territory, vibes. Vote for the kinder violence, sure. Protect others and yourself. Spread the word, it rarely fits in a single article, story, poem. Glance up, glance away, plead Hunan rights to remain blind. Watch sports, pick up popcorn in the shag carpet, it's your turn. Flinch is what they're after.

Advice to the Grub Street Verse-writers (Jonathon Swift , 1726)

Ok, bot.

Ye poets ragged and forlorn,

      Down from your garrets haste;

Ye rhymers, dead as soon as born,

      Not yet consign'd to paste;

   I know a trick to make you thrive;

      O, 'tis a quaint device:

Your still-born poems shall revive,

      And scorn to wrap up spice.

   Get all your verses printed fair,

      Then let them well be dried;

And Curll must have a special care

      To leave the margin wide.

   Lend these to paper-sparing Pope;

      And when he sets to write,

No letter with an envelope

      Could give him more delight.

   When Pope has fill'd the margins round,

      Why then recall your loan;

Sell them to Curll for fifty pound,

      And swear they are your own

His Grace! impossible! what dead!

Of old age too, and in his bed!

And could that mighty warrior fall?

And so inglorious, after all!

Well, since he’s gone, no matter how,

The last loud trump must wake him now:

And, trust me, as the noise grows stronger,

He’d wish to sleep a little longer.

And could he be indeed so old

As by the newspapers we’re told?

Threescore, I think, is pretty high;

’Twas time in conscience he should die

This world he cumbered long enough;

He burnt his candle to the snuff;

And that’s the reason, some folks think,

He left behind so great a stink.

Behold his funeral appears,

Nor widow’s sighs, nor orphan’s tears,

Wont at such times each heart to pierce,

Attend the progress of his hearse.

But what of that, his friends may say,

He had those honours in his day.

True to his profit and his pride,

He made them weep before he died.

    Come hither, all ye empty things,

Ye bubbles raised by breath of kings;

Who float upon the tide of state,

Come hither, and behold your fate.

Let pride be taught by this rebuke,

How very mean a thing’s a Duke;

From all his ill-got honours flung,

Turned to that

dirt from whence Trump came

Ode on the Death of a Favourite Cat Drowned in a Tub of Goldfishes

Ode on the Death of a Favourite Cat Drowned in a Tub of Goldfishes (1747)

Twas on a lofty vase’s side,

Where China’s gayest art had dyed

The azure flowers that blow;

Demurest of the tabby kind,

The pensive Selima, reclined,

Gazed on the lake below.

Her conscious tail her joy declared;

The fair round face, the snowy beard,

The velvet of her paws,

Her coat, that with the tortoise vies,

Her ears of jet, and emerald eyes,

She saw; and purred applause.

Still had she gazed; but ’midst the tide

Two angel forms were seen to glide,

The genii of the stream;

Their scaly armour’s Tyrian hue

Through richest purple to the view

Betrayed a golden gleam.

The hapless nymph with wonder saw;

A whisker first and then a claw,

With many an ardent wish,

She stretched in vain to reach the prize.

What female heart can gold despise?

What cat’s averse to fish?

Presumptuous maid! with looks intent

Again she stretch’d, again she bent,

Nor knew the gulf between.

(Malignant Fate sat by, and smiled)

The slippery verge her feet beguiled,

She tumbled headlong in.

Eight times emerging from the flood

She mewed to every watery god,

Some speedy aid to send.

No dolphin came, no Nereid stirred;

Nor cruel Tom, nor Susan heard;

A Favourite has no friend!

From hence, ye beauties, undeceived,

Know, one false step is ne’er retrieved,

And be with caution bold.

Not all that tempts your wandering eyes

And heedless hearts, is lawful prize;

Nor all that glisters, gold.

The two primary sponsors of the bill are Democrat Ben Cardin of Maryland and Republican Rob Portman of Ohio.

 Perhaps the most shocking aspect is the punishment: Anyone guilty of violating the prohibitions will face a minimum civil penalty of $250,000 and a maximum criminal penalty of $1 million and 20 years in prison."

The list possibly includes one current White House official.

Anita Dunn took a leave of absence from her consulting firm SKDKnickerbocker and joined the Biden White House in January as a senior adviser. Her firm advised NSO Group in 2019.

It’s unclear whether she personally worked for the company. Dunn has circumvented federal ethics rules that require disclosures of income, assets, and clients by serving as a temporary employee in the executive branch and taking a salary just below a threshold that would require public filings.

 She says she plans to leave the White House "soon."

Dunn’s firm defended NSO on the record. Even if she may have not been directly working for NSO, Dunn was willing to lend her name—hers is the D in SKDK—to repair the company’s image.

“What sets NSO apart from many other cyber technology firms is its commitment to an ethical business framework that relies on the expertise of people with national security and intelligence backgrounds from around the world to evaluate potential customers and review current customers,” Dunn’s firm told The Intercept in 2019. SKDK declined to comment to the Prospect."

Grant's Pass Solution

'The gospels demonstrate the homelessness of Jesus lasting for the entirety of his public ministry.

"From the greengrocer tree you get grapes and green pea, cauliflower, pineapple, and cranberries,

While the pastry-cook plant cherry-brandy will grant - apple puffs, and three-corners, and banberries -

The shares are a penny, and ever so many are taken by ROTHSCHILD and BARING,

And just as a few are allotted to you, you awake with a shudder despairing -

You're a regular wreck, with a crick in your neck, and no wonder you snore, for your head's on the floor, and you've needles and pins from your soles to your shins, and your flesh is a-creep, for your left leg's asleep, and you've cramp in your toes, and a fly on your nose, and some fluff in your lung, and a feverish tongue, and a thirst that's intense, and a general sense that you haven't been sleeping in clover;

But the darkness has passed, and it's daylight at last, and the night has been long - ditto, ditto my song - and thank goodness they're both of them"

Many of the people on whom he depended for charity were women.

Because his ministry took place in the vicinity of his disciples' hometowns, it is likely that the group often slept at the homes of the disciples' family members."

Foxes and parents, children, the elderly evicted, your mother, your son, our nurse, the neighbors uncle, why does a hit list omit your lord and savior,  Grant's Pass, in a gestapo reality to force the unhoused away, to steal money they don't have with fines, to imprison the houseless, go back to the manger-----where it started, the virgin birth how gullible one is to accept that premise, and also trespassing, there with cow sheep horse and dog.

    The lamb has it's hole and it's goon squad, the chicken has it's army of midnight torture gangs, they take your lone blanket from the houseless and make a noose.

    The cat only good in the businessman fold when it's employed to kill mice, the cat in the drizzle eaves worthy of pitchfork agenda.

     The former soldiers you took from school at 17 now try to survive hooked on escape medicine to dodge the nightmares from followed orders, massacres, hazing abuse and unspeakables.

    Ferret the former grunt out from his shopping cart cartel, shame him, put him behind bars that the jailers earn their Home by, $500 a day the kind system eats from taxes on the working middle class, those teachers pushing inclusion abc and number satanism like addition, subtracting. Kick the shadowed clumps regardless of age, gender, kick the women hardest. It's what drives business.

   A brick to the heart, get out, the lone command. Exit the city, ravens will pick the rags off the corpse that deserved no clothing, no food, no shelter. If the gangs sent by sheriff or owner of the gas station find your child, they'll be raised by strangers who share a sadist perspective, a bunk bed and bible, a flag to keep slightly warm with, a socket near the window to plug into with an alarm clock.

Houseless people are animals says your master, a question that the unelected in robes decide after free fishing trips and champagne spas with celebrity redacted. The many and overly housed act on their love for hatred of those they dominate, your father, your brother, the lady with the cardboard sign, the dirty thing with a bag of cans from what we swill on the sofa.

 Hail Mary, Grant's Pass. An endrun around Jesus is always a good start toward finishing Religion.

When you're lying awake with a dismal headache, and repose is taboo'd by anxiety,

I conceive you may use any language you choose to indulge in without impropriety;

For your brain is on fire - the bedclothes conspire of usual slumber to plunder you:

First your counterpane goes and uncovers your toes, and your sheet slips demurely from under you;

Then the blanketing tickles - you feel like mixed pickles, so terribly sharp is the pricking,

And you're hot, and you're cross, and you tumble and toss till there's nothing 'twixt you and the ticking.

Then the bedclothes all creep to the ground in a heap, and you pick 'em all up in a tangle;

Next your pillow resigns and politely declines to remain at its usual angle!

Well, you get some repose in the form of a doze, with hot eyeballs and head ever aching,

But your slumbering teems with such horrible dreams that you'd very much better be waking;

For you dream you are crossing the Channel, and tossing about in a steamer from Harwich,

Which is something between a large bathing-machine and a very small second-class carriage;

And you're giving a treat (penny ice and cold meat) to a party of friends and relations -

They're a ravenous horde - and they all came on board at Sloane Square and South Kensington Stations.

And bound on that journey you find your attorney (who started that morning from Devon);

He's a bit undersized, and you don't feel surprised when he tells you he's only eleven.

Well, you're driving like mad with this singular lad (by the bye the ship's now a four-wheeler),

And you're playing round games, and he calls you bad names when you tell him that "ties pay the dealer";

But this you can't stand, so you throw up your hand, and you find you're as cold as an icicle,

In your shirt and your socks (the black silk with gold clocks), crossing Salisbury Plain on a bicycle:

And he and the crew are on bicycles too - which they've somehow or other invested in -

And he's telling the tars all the particulars of a company he's interested in -

It's a scheme of devices, to get at low prices, all goods from cough mixtures to cables

(Which tickled the sailors) by treating retailers, as though they were all vegetables -

You get a good spadesman to plant a small tradesman (first take off his boots with a boot-tree),

And his legs will take root, and his fingers will shoot, and they'll blossom and bud like a fruit-tree -

From the greengrocer tree you get grapes and green pea, cauliflower, pineapple, and cranberries,

While the pastry-cook plant cherry-brandy will grant - apple puffs, and three-corners, and banberries -

The shares are a penny, and ever so many are taken by ROTHSCHILD and BARING,

And just as a few are allotted to you, you awake with a shudder despairing -

A nocturnal reverie ( 1713)

In such a night, when every louder wind

Is to its distant cavern safe confined;

And only gentle Zephyr fans his wings,

And lonely Philomel, still waking, sings;

Or from some tree, famed for the owl’s delight,

She, hollowing clear, directs the wand’rer right:

In such a night, when passing clouds give place,

Or thinly veil the heav’ns’ mysterious face;

When in some river, overhung with green,

The waving moon and the trembling leaves are seen;

When freshened grass now bears itself upright,

And makes cool banks to pleasing rest invite,

Whence springs the woodbind, and the bramble-rose,

And where the sleepy cowslip sheltered grows;

Whilst now a paler hue the foxglove takes,

Yet checkers still with red the dusky brakes

When scatter’d glow-worms, but in twilight fine,

Shew trivial beauties, watch their hour to shine;

Whilst Salisb’ry stands the test of every light,

In perfect charms, and perfect virtue bright:

When odors, which declined repelling day,

Through temp’rate air uninterrupted stray;

When darkened groves their softest shadows wear,

And falling waters we distinctly hear;

When through the gloom more venerable shows

Some ancient fabric, awful in repose,

While sunburnt hills their swarthy looks conceal,

And swelling haycocks thicken up the vale:

When the loosed horse now, as his pasture leads,

Comes slowly grazing through th’ adjoining meads,

Whose stealing pace, and lengthened shade we fear,

Till torn-up forage in his teeth we hear:

When nibbling sheep at large pursue their food,

And unmolested kine rechew the cud;

When curlews cry beneath the village walls,

And to her straggling brood the partridge calls;

Their shortlived jubilee the creatures keep,

Which but endures, whilst tyrant man does sleep;

When a sedate content the spirit feels,

And no fierce light disturbs, whilst it reveals;

But silent musings urge the mind to seek

Something, too high for syllables to speak;

Till the free soul to a composedness charmed,

Finding the elements of rage disarmed,

O’er all below a solemn quiet grown,

Joys in th’ inferior world, and thinks it like her own:

In such a night let me abroad remain,

Till morning breaks, and all’s confused again;

Our cares, our toils, our clamors are renewed,

Or pleasures, seldom reached, again pursued.

Anne Finch 1713.

Woolf sympathises deeply with Finch's plight as a female poet, and though she takes issue with some of the content in Finch's writing, 'she expresses grief that Finch is so unknown: "…when one comes to seek out the facts about Lady Winchilsea, one finds, as usual, that almost nothing is known about her."

Woolf wishes to know more about "this melancholy lady, who loved wandering in the fields and thinking about unusual things and scorned, so rashly, so unwisely, 'the dull manage of a servile house.'"

,***

"her poetic output had been largely forgotten, until the great English poet William Wordsworth praised her nature poetry in an essay included in his 1815 volume Lyrical Ballads"
