or a Batdorf

Johannes Jacob Peter Batdorf was born ca. 1671 in Darmstadt, in the current state of Hessen, Germany, and died in London, England in 1709.

He married Anna Maria Catharina Anspach. After his death, she married Johannes Zellar in 1712 in New York. She died in 1747/8 at Millbach, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. She was buried in the old Rieth's Church cemetery next to her second husband.

Johannes and Anna lived for several years in Palatine, Germany, where their five children were born.

"The history of Clothilde Zeller, born in De Reni of a cadet branch of the Valois family, a subject of France, but through the persuasion of the Governor Keith and the astute Secretary Logan of Philadelphia a citizen of Pennsylvania in pioneer days, is a typical one of a European immigrant to these shores.

Born during the liberalism of the Edict of Nantes when it was the fashion for ladies of high rank to be educated, Margaret de Valois, Countess d'Augergne, in her chatelaineship at LeMont Dore left a reputation for letters, while the Countess Clothilde de Valois de Reni, her many-times-removed cousin, fell in love with a scholar. In her teens, she married Jacques de Sellaire, or, if one knew as the family across the border, Von Zeller of Castle Zellerstein, Zurich, and fled from France with him and their children after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes to Holland.

Shortly after their son's marriage in Holland the Zeller's journeyed to England and the Lady Clothilde, as she was recorded there, place herself, her children, and husband under the protection of Queen Anne, who made them welcome not only in England but, should they choose, in her colonies across the sea. With many of their race and a considerable number of their own class and position, they gladly accepted the chance to begin again in a new world. Clothilde at this time was the sole head of her family, her husband having died, either in London or before their ship arrived at New York in June 1710.

These French immigrants, together with many of the Palatinate Germans who were coming to the Americas for the same reason - freedom to worship God according to their own conscience, had a bitter experience of scant welcome and indifferent choice of lands along the Hudson River. The Zeller's and the French group - which had placed themselves with the Lady Clothilde for protection and advice found even their second venture father north, in the Dutch-English province at Schoharie, little to their comfort though they named their settlement L'Esperance! It was at this juncture that Governor Keith of Pennsylvania paid them a visit and, impressed with their character and worth, invited them over to Pennsylvania by a well known and already much used route down the Susquehanna River. Being French and already twice warned, the Lady Clothilde was wary of promises. So Jean Henri, her eldest son, with an Indian guide was sent ahead to prospect. Perhaps it was she who stipulated rich lands as well as clear titles, or perhaps Jean Henri, now in his thirties, was already aware of the soil from a farmer's standpoint. At all events he journeyed down the Susquehanna below where the great river branches at what is now Sunbury, paddled up a creek of some dimensions still known as the Swatara, and so across what is now the Lebanon Valley to a fertile region watered by the Tulpehocken, in which black walnut trees of great age and fine verdure flourished. In the country of Jean Henri Zeller's mother's people, the French tradition was that black walnuts meant fertility and a deep soil. So armed with this assuring promise, young Zeller journeyed by foot and canoe back to the Schoharie in northern New York and made his report to his mother and her party.

They accepted the good sign at once. Rafts were built, provisions were packed, utensils, canoes and baggage were assembled and the contingent set forth, arriving at the Mill creek region not far from the present Newmanstown and the larger settlement of Womelsdorf in 1723.

Here the Zellers built a fort to protect themselves and their neighbors and procured deeds for land from three Penns - John, Thomas and Richard. Somewhat later they helped to start the first church of that vicinity. Under pressure of Indian raids, in 1745 they rebuilt their log fort with stone outside and plaster over wattles inside, placing over the door the carved emblem of their faith and the family crest as knights of the Holy Roman Empire. About this time the Zeller name was Germanized - Heinrich Zeller - for the America all about them was German in speech and behavior.

Clothilde de Valois, who saw all this and much else come to pass, lived to be past eighty and to remain a personage long remembered in her family, a tradition of dignity, of authority, land of exalted if shadowy backgrounds, remaining extant generation after generation."

"In 2012, President Obama approved the construction of the southern leg of the original Keystone XL pipeline proposal; it ran from Cushing, Okla. to Port Arthur, Texas.

But in late 2015, he turned down TransCanada’s application to build a pipeline through Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska citing climate concerns and Nebraska’s ecological concerns.

The 3-2 commission decision comes just four days after a rupture in the existing Keystone pipeline also owned by TransCanada leaked an estimated 5,000 barrels of crude oil in a rural part of northeast South Dakota. "

WW2 Oil, Champlin Oil Refinery

WEST EDMOND FIELD.
The West Edmond Field was Oklahoma's most important oil discovery of the 1940s.

It developed through the persistence of Ace Gutowsky, who claimed to know the location of potential oil fields by using so-called "doodlebug" techniques, a modification of the divining rod. He was convinced that oil was located to the west of the Edmond, Britton, and Oklahoma City fields, but reputable petroleum geologists dismissed his claims due to a lack of adequate geological and geophysical evidence.

Gutowsky found a backer for his project in D. D. Bourland of San Antonio, Texas. They spudded in on the Number One Wagner on January 2, 1943, in the NW 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of the SW 1/4 of Section 32, T14N-R4W, Oklahoma County, a few miles west of Edmond. The well came in on April 28 in the Hunton limestone at a depth of 6,950 feet for a twenty-four hour flow of 522 barrels of oil.

By the end of 1943 the field was crowded with drilling rigs, and eleven large wells were producing. Almost immediately pipeline service was established, with the bulk of the production going to the Champlin Oil Refinery at Enid.

The West Edmond Field produced 7,752,000 barrels of oil in 1944 to temporarily bring the state's sagging oil production to 1.5 million barrels more than the previous year. The field contributed to yet another statewide increase of 15 million barrels in 1945.

"The Count of Egmont was at the head of one of the wealthiest and most powerful families in the Low Countries. Paternally, a branch of the Egmonts ruled the sovereign duchy of Guelders until 1538.

Lamoral was born in La Hamaide near Ellezelles. His father was John IV of Egmont, knight in the Order of the Golden Fleece. His mother belonged to a cadet branch of the House of Luxembourg, and through her he inherited the title prince de Gavere.[2]

During his youth, he received a military education in Spain. In 1542, he inherited the estates of his elder brother Charles in Holland. His family's stature increased further in 1544 when, at Spires, in the presence of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V and of the Archduke Ferdinand I, he married the Countess Palatine Sabine of Simmern, whose brother became the Elector Palatine Frederick III."

oklahoma rape statute, indicative of Red State values

Tulsa prosecutors say they are angry over a ruling by Oklahoma’s highest criminal court that the state’s forcible sodomy law doesn’t apply when the victim is intoxicated or unconscious.

The decision by the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals contrasts with a national push to step up enforcement of sexual assault laws and toughen rules of sexual consent.

On March 24, the Court of Criminal Appeals found that because of the way the state’s sodomy law is written, “forcible sodomy cannot occur where a victim is so intoxicated as to be completely unconscious at the time of the sexual act of oral copulation.”
The ruling denied an appeal by the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office in a case arising from an incident between two high school students in 2014. The appeals court wrote that the original ruling in November by a Tulsa County judge dismissing the case was not in error.

Although Oklahoma’s rape law says a rape can occur when the victim is intoxicated or unconscious, the forcible sodomy law does not contain that language. The appeals court unanimously ruled that because the law lacks that provision, the defendant could not be prosecuted. The boy, who was 17 at the time, was charged as a youthful offender, meaning, if convicted, he could have been moved to a prison at age 19 if he didn’t meet certain conditions in the juvenile system.

“We will not, in order to justify prosecution of a person for an offense, enlarge a statute beyond the fair meaning of its language,” the appeals court wrote in what is called an “unpublished opinion,” meaning it cannot be cited as a precedent.

Benjamin Fu, Tulsa County assistant district attorney and director of the office’s special victims unit, called the court’s interpretation “insane,” “dangerous” and “offensive.” He said the court had the authority and precedent to determine that the Legislature intended to include intoxication and unconsciousness in the sodomy law. As a comparison, Fu referred to the fact that an intruder who enters the unlocked door of a home can be still charged with breaking and entering.

“I told the court that this (argument) is absurd,” said Fu, the lead prosecutor in the case. “And their response was essentially, ‘We’re not going to create a crime where one does not exist.’”

Fu said he and law enforcement officials plan to push for legislation to address the discrepancy in rape and sodomy laws.

The case in question involves two high school students who were drinking and smoking marijuana with several friends at a Tulsa park into the early morning hours of June 1, 2014.

The female student, who was 16 at the time, had drunk a large quantity of vodka; blood tests would later show her blood-alcohol level at .341, more than four times the legal limit to drive and indicative of severe alcohol poisoning, court records state.

(Oklahoma Watch is withholding the names of the defendant and the victim because of their ages and because it generally does not identify victims of sexual assault.)

Court transcripts showed several other minors who were present testified that the girl was stumbling and falling. The group agreed to allow the defendant in the case, who attended the same school, to take her somewhere to stay in his car.

Records state that two boys had to pick the girl up and carry her to the car. Another boy who rode with the two but was later dropped off testified that the girl was drifting in and out of consciousness and could not walk.

Later, the defendant brought the girl, who still was not conscious, to her grandmother’s house, and the family took her to a Tulsa hospital. A sexual assault examination was conducted, and the boy’s DNA was found on her, court records show.

In an interview with police, the defendant said the victim engaged in consensual oral sex with him and it was her idea. The girl told officers she could not remember anything after being at the park.

Prosecutors initially charged the boy with first-degree rape and forcible oral sodomy, but because there was no evidence showing he had raped the girl, that charge was dismissed.

Later, Tulsa County District Court Judge Patrick Pickerill dismissed the forcible oral sodomy charge, stating unconsciousness and intoxication are not present in the law’s definition of the crime.

Fu said he does not blame the Legislature for not addressing the issue earlier; rather he blames the court’s interpretation of the statute.

“My argument was that if you rule today that because she was intoxicated it can’t be force, then … you’ll have to engage in what I can only refer to as the ‘orifice test,’” Fu said. “Whereby the contact by the defendant and the state of mind of the victim are the exact same. It just depends on (the location of the sexual act).”

Shannon McMurray, attorney for the defendant, said prosecutors handled the case poorly and a charge of sexual battery would have been more appropriate. However, because the girl did not remember, it would still be difficult to prove she did not consent, McMurray said.

“They (prosecutors) were trying to substitute one element for the other, meaning intoxication in the rape statute, when there was absolutely no evidence of force or him doing anything to make this girl give him oral sex other than she was too intoxicated to consent,” McMurray said.

“The court agreed what the state was attempting to do was rewrite statute and add an element,” McMurray said. “You can’t substitute force with intoxication under the law.”

Because the case was unpublished, it does not set a hard legal precedent, Fu said. But the interpretation could allow others convicted under similar circumstances to be freed if they appeal.

The argument is also already being used in similar cases and would make it much harder for some sexual assault victims to come forward and report the crime, he said.

“All this does is add to the fire,” Fu said. “Their (sexual assault victims’) biggest fear is that people they tell the story to won’t understand or will judge them for their behavior. If they had that concern, the Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed that, 5-0.”

Update, May 5
Rep. Scott Biggs, R-Chickasha, has introduced language into an existing bill that would amend the state’s forcible oral sodomy law to include instances in which the victim is unconscious or intoxicated.
House Bill 2398 also changes the definition of sexual consent to state that consent cannot be given by a person who is asleep, physically incapacitated by drugs or alcohol, or is under duress, being threatened or being forced to perform a sexual act.

Update, April 28
State Rep. Scott Biggs, R-Chickasha, says he plans to amend a bill to include unconscious victims in Oklahoma’s forcible sodomy law. In a news release, Biggs said, ““I am horrified by the idea that we would allow these depraved rapists to face a lower charge simply because the victim is unconscious. I think the judges made a grave error, but if they need more clarification, we are happy to give it to them by fixing the statute.”

intellectual trajectory

Ruth Evelyn Champlin Van Zant
1906 - 2007

Ruth Evelyn Champlin Van Zant, 101, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007.

Graveside service: A private service will be held in Oklahoma, where she
will be laid to rest beside her husband.
Memorials: Contributions may be made to University Christian Church, 2720 S.
University Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76109.
___________

When our grandmother was almost 70, she taught her grandchildren how to
stand on their heads. She said that, as with many things in life, it was all
about balance. She was right.

Ruth Evelyn Champlin Van Zant was born in Indian Territory in 1906, in what
was to become the state of Oklahoma. The daughter of Louise Selover Champlin
and Frederick Charles Champlin, her family were early settlers of Oklahoma.

Her father and his two brothers came to Oklahoma for the opportunities the
oil business offered and ultimately came to operate many business
enterprises in Enid, Okla.

Her childhood memories included flying down the
stairs of their home on carpet strips with her four other siblings. Because
of this story, her great-grandchildren engaged in the same activity, no
matter how loud or destructive, in their sleeping bags.

She viewed a college education as an opportunity to see the world and in her
four years, shematriculated at three different universities in various geographic
parts ofthe country.

She attended Maryland College for Women and spent two
years there, while her brother was concurrently enrolled at the nearby Naval
Academy in Bethesda. The stories of riding the train from Oklahoma to
Maryland, with all the windows of the train open due to a lack of any type
of ventilation system during that era and arriving with one's white gloves
and hat pristine, is a testament to her persistence.

 Following the
graduation of her brother, she transferred to Colorado University in
Boulder, where she pledged the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, an institution
that was meaningful to her all of her life and one which subsequent
generations followed.

She then ultimately graduated from Oklahoma University
with honors where she majored in English Literature. Her interest in higher
education did not end there. After the birth of her first grandchild, she
went to graduate school and obtained a master's degree, also with honors, in
Spanish studies from Texas Christian University. Although still a little
unclear to the family, she also managed to pick up the French language along
this intellectual trajectory.

She enjoyed travel and her enthusiasm for this began at an early age, with
long trips in the eight-passenger Cadillac across the country to see the
Grand Canyon, Yosemite and other great national sites. Following graduation
from college, her family's intent had been for her to return to Enid and
teach elementary school.

 She, however, had other plans.

 She took her savings
and, with the suitable chaperone for the late 1920s, went to Europe. There
she was exposed to the works of Monet, Matisse and Picasso, critical
influences in her own artistic career. She traveled across the Soviet Union
when the Trans-Siberian Railway first opened for tourism (a feat of courage
in and of itself), rode camels in Egypt and paddled in the flat bottom boats
of the klongs in Bangkok.

At the age of 100, she could remember the
"shortcut" to the Prado Museum through the back streets of Madrid. When she
could no longer travel, she would travel vicariously with those of us who
could. So when you arrived at your hotel in Hong Kong there would be a
letter waiting for you from her regaling you with the Hong Kong of four
decades ago.

She married James Harvey Van Zant and moved to Fort Worth in 1943, where
they built together a successful oil and gas business and raised their
family.

She loved to swim and she swam almost daily until the age of 100. Before her
children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren could crawl, if she had her
way, they would be in the water with her.

She instilled in them all a
lifelong understanding of the importance of daily physical and intellectual
activity. In later years she loved to swim every evening with her neighbor
and discuss the content of the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.

She taught us how to listen to the trees, how to waltz, how to make a great
meatloaf. She had an appreciation for hard work and the penny. Because of
her, we wash and reuse foil and save rubber bands and this was all before
recycling was fashionable.

Her influence is exemplified in her
great-grandson, captain of his middle school water polo team. She had been
the one that taught him how to put his face in the water at the age of two.
Her laughter lives in her great-grandchildren.

Her spirit is present every
time a child learns to swim.

Survivors: Children, Jeanne Van Zant Sanders (Mrs. Frederick Arthur Sanders)
of Fort Worth and James Harvey Van Zant II and his wife, Carolan, of Dublin;
six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

"Acetic acid is the second simplest carboxylic acid (after formic acid). It consists of a methyl group attached to a carboxyl group. It is an important chemical reagent and industrial chemical, used primarily in the production of cellulose acetate for photographic film, polyvinyl acetate for wood glue, and synthetic fibres and fabrics.

In households, diluted acetic acid is often used in descaling agents. In the food industry, acetic acid is controlled by the food additive code E260 as an acidity regulator and as a condiment. As a food additive it is approved for usage in many countries, including Canada,[6] the European Union,[7] the United States,[8] Australia and New Zealand.[9]

In biochemistry, the acetyl group, derived from acetic acid, is fundamental to all forms of life.

When bound to coenzyme A, it is central to the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats.

The global demand for acetic acid is about 6.5 million metric tons per year (Mt/a), of which approximately 1.5 Mt/a is met by recycling; the remainder is manufactured from methanol.[10] Vinegar is mostly dilute acetic acid, often produced by fermentation and subsequent oxidation of ethanol."

______________

"Vinegar is typically 4–18% acetic acid by mass. Vinegar is used directly as a condiment, and in the pickling of vegetables and other foods. "

______________

"Interstellar acetic acid was discovered in 1996 by a team led by David Mehringer[75] using the former Berkeley-Illinois-Maryland Association array at the Hat Creek Radio Observatory and the former Millimeter Array located at the Owens Valley Radio Observatory.

It was first detected in the Sagittarius B2 North molecular cloud (also known as the Sgr B2 Large Molecule Heimat source).

Acetic acid has the distinction of being the first molecule discovered in the interstellar medium using solely radio interferometers; in all previous ISM molecular discoveries made in the millimetre and centimetre wavelength regimes, single dish radio telescopes were at least partly responsible for the detections."

"When Herbert H. Champlin died on April 30, 1944, his company employed more than eight hundred people in Enid, operated service stations and wholesale outlets in twenty midwestern states, had a strong drilling and production presence in Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, and New Mexico, and continued a major refining operation supported by one of the largest pipeline complexes in Oklahoma.

The company continued under family ownership until its stock went public in 1953. In 1954 the Champlin Refining Company was bought by the Chicago Corporation of Chicago, Illinois. This $55 million deal allowed the company to operate as a subsidiary until the Chicago Corporation changed its name to the Champlin Refining Company in 1956.

In 1964 the Celanese Corporation bought the company, and at the beginning of 1970 Celanese sold Champlin to the Union Pacific Resources Company, a division of the Union Pacific Corporation.

They operated the Champlin Refining Company in much the same manner as before.

In 1984 they sold the entire retail operation to American Petrofina, closed the Enid refinery, and ended the Champlin Refining Company's lengthy and significant presence in Oklahoma.

In 1998, Hoechst combined most of its industrial chemical operations in a new company, Celanese AG, and, in 1999, Hoechst spun off Celanese AG as a publicly traded, German corporation, traded on both the Frankfurt and New York stock exchanges.

On 16 December 2003, the U.S. private equity firm Blackstone Group announced a takeover offer for Celanese, after two years of wooing management.[9]

Shareholders formally approved the offer from Blackstone on 16 June 2004, and Blackstone completed the acquisition of Celanese AG. The company was delisted from the New York Stock Exchange, and Blackstone changed the entity's name to Celanese Corporation. Under Blackstone, a number of streamlining initiatives were undertaken, and several acquisitions were made.

On 21 January 2005, Celanese Corporation conducted an initial public offering and became a publicly traded corporation traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "CE".[10] When Blackstone sold the last of its shares in 2007, it had made five times what it had invested and it, and its co-investors collected a $2.9 billion profit.[11]

Latin:

Pars Sueborum et Isidi sacrificat: unde causa et origo peregrino sacro, parum comperi, nisi quod signum ipsum in modum liburnae figuratum docet advectam religionem.[1]
Birley translation:

Part of the Suebi sacrifice to Isis as well. I have little idea what the origin or explanation of this foreign cult is, except that the goddess's emblem, which resembles a light warship, indicates that the goddess came from abroad.[2]
Rives translation:

Some of the Suebi sacrifice also to Isis. I cannot determine the reason and origin of the foreign cult, but her emblem, fashioned in the form of a Liburnian ship, proves that her worship comes from abroad.

"Sweyn (Swedish: Blot-Sven, Sweyn the Sacrificer) was a Swedish king c. 1080,[2] who replaced his Christian brother-in-law Inge as King of Sweden, when Inge had refused to administer the blóts (pagan sacrifices) at the Temple at Uppsala.

There is no mention of Sweyn in the regnal list of the Westrogothic law, which suggests that his rule did not reach Västergötland.[2]

According to Swedish historian Adolf Schück he was probably the same person as Håkan the Red and was called the Blót Swain (a swain who was willing to perform the blót) as an epithet rather than a personal name."

*********

The later Legend of Saint Eskil tells that Inge was chased away from the kingdom. They then elected an idolator for king by the name Sweyn, an unworthy man and with reason called Blood-Sweyn.

He had this name because he made the people drink blood from bulls that had been sacrificed to the gods, and he ate the sacrificial meat. The people assembled around their king in Strängnäs, where they butchered oxen and sheep, and gave offerings to their gods.

They had a great banquet in honour of the king and their gods. The English bishop Eskil then appeared and tried to convert the pagans to Christianity. They would not listen, however. Eskil prayed, and God sent thunder, hail, snow and rain destroying the sacrificial altar and beasts of sacrifice. Not a single drop fell on the bishop.

The pagans were not impressed and furiously, they attacked Eskil. A diviner named Spåbodde hit him on the head with a stone, while another man crushed his head with an axe. Some chieftains dragged the dying martyr to the king saying that Eskil had used magic arts to control the weather.

As soon as the unrightful king had sentenced Eskil to death, he was taken to the valley where the monastery later was founded, and he was stoned to death[4]

Blót is the term for "sacrifice" in Norse paganism. A blót could be dedicated to any of the Norse gods, the spirits of the land, and to ancestors. The sacrifice involved aspects of a sacramental meal or feast.

The cognate term blōt or geblōt in Old English would have referred to comparable traditions in Anglo-Saxon paganism, and comparanda can also be reconstructed for the wider (prehistoric) Germanic Indo-European.

A goði or gothi (plural goðar) is the Old Norse term for a priest and chieftain. Gyðja signifies a priestess.

During the Viking Age, the goði was originally a heathen priest. After the Settlement in Iceland, the hofgoði was a temple priest; this was usually a wealthy and respected man in his district, for he had to maintain the communal hall or hof in which community religious observances and feasts were held.

The area over which a goði had leadership was termed a goðorð. Over time, and especially after 1000, when the Christian conversion occurred in Iceland, the term goði lost its sacred connotations and came to mean simply "chieftain".

"Anadarko was formed in 1959 as a subsidiary of Panhandle Eastern Corporation Pipe Line Company after the discovery of large amounts of natural gas in the Anadarko Basin, which underlies the Texas Panhandle and Oklahoma Panhandle, and southwest Kansas.

In 1986, Panhandle Eastern Corporation distributed its interests in Anadarko to its shareholders via a corporate spin-off in 1986.[3]

In 1999, the company purchased a 7.5-acre (30,000 m2) tract in The Woodlands, Texas from the Woodlands Land Company to build an 800,000-square-foot (74,000 m2), 32-story headquarters building, on the site.[4] In 2012, the company began construction of another office tower adjacent to its headquarters.[5] The company named its two office towers after former CEOs.[6] The buildings were completed in 2014.[7]

In April 2000, the company acquired Union Pacific Resources in a $4.4 billion transaction."

"In April 2014, Anadarko settled with the U.S. Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency to pay $5.15 billion to clean up environmental waste sites around the country.

It was the largest environmental contamination settlement in American history."

Indeed, the 153-year-old Union Pacific—often referred to as “UP” within the rail industry—is not only outpacing Buffett’s railroad but also beating almost every other industrial company in the Fortune 500.

The old-economy warhorse generates profits at a rate that rivals those of the best tech, pharmaceutical, and financial services companies.

In 2014, Union Pacific logged $5.18 billion in net profits on sales of $24 billion, for a return-on-revenues ratio of 21.6%. By that measure, the railroad company ties Apple (21.6%) (AAPL, -0.66%) and beats J.P. Morgan (21.3%) (JPM, -0.25%), Goldman Sachs (21.1%) (GS, -0.57%), Intel (20.9%) (INTC, -2.21%), Google (20.2%) (GOOG, -1.30%), and Pfizer (18.4%) (PFE, -0.56%).

The only non-oil industrial enterprise that ranks higher is forest products producer Weyerhaeuser (22.9%) (WY, -0.71%), whose sales are one-third those of Union Pacific’s.

"Reuters exclusively reported in July that Rosneft was negotiating to switch its collateral in the refiner for oilfield stakes and a fuel supply deal - a move to avoid complications from U.S. sanctions and legal problems, sources said at the time.

State-owned Rosneft holds a 49.9 percent collateral in Citgo for a loan last year of about $1.5 billion to the OPEC nation, which is reeling from low oil prices and a severe recession.

The arrangement with Venezuela’s state-owned oil firm, PDVSA, has drawn fire from U.S. senators who do not want Russia in a position to own a substantial stake in U.S.-based energy assets in potential violation of existing economic sanctions.

But sources with knowledge of the negotiations said it was PDVSA who offered the Citgo stake and that Rosneft is not interested in taking over the refinery should a battle ensue for highly indebted PDVSA’s assets in the event of a default.

However, it remains to be seen if Venezuela can offer attractive enough assets or supply deals to rival the value of the Citgo collateral.

A new deal with Russia could also intensify criticism of unpopular leftist President Nicolas Maduro. His opponents accuse him of selling off prized oil assets to raise the cash he needs to prop up his administration amid violent street protests and shortages of food and medicine."

"Champlin owned 1, 400 service stations in 12 midwestern states. For the first time,
UP could compete in the oil business from the field to the gas pump. It formed a Canadian
subsidiary to partner in the exploration leases on the Alaskan North Slope. At the same
time, the natural resources division joined with other oil companies to explore for oil
southeast of Denver and across the entire 7 million acres of the Union Pacific land
grant.

The division's scientists also discovered comercial grade uranium in the Powder River
Basin of Wyoming.  Upland, the new  land company bought parcels along the line and
unveiled an ambitious development program that included a hotel in Las Vegas,
residential subdivisions, and a commercial center in Portland Fucking Oregon."

Rounding out the list are Carlos Slim, the Mexican tycoon, and Amancio Ortega, the Spanish founder of a retail conglomerate that includes clothing chain Zara. interdependence day (1988)

Fireworks celebrate the fourth of july sky over the gulf of Persia
And you’re in italy sleeping off a siesta,

The planes passengers crossing the channel to their homes
Smelling of Lebanese meats and spices, the sound of silly

Children happy to see daddy, spouse’s complaint of the local
Vicious dog that terrorizes the innocent meter reader doing daily duties

I’m pitching horseshoes in Oklahoma, taking aim
And firing with my lower lip silently chewed in contemplation

Pitching my shoe and hoping for a ringer the macho
Burst of fireworks resounds in my mind

And all I felt was disgust, and all I felt was this remorseful code
Dashdashdash dotdotdot dashdashdashing thru all the

Miles and differing wartime zones, and all I felt
From this celebration of isolation was nausea

My mind churning with the bloated floating dead
O spangled banner of america who’d guess you’re not an island

Though surrounded by mental waters you only
Lower your drawbridge to send out armed salesmen, what

Carrion you produce along the skyways of commerce!
What blisters swelling on the triggerfingers of ignorance,

What vain nationalism with your civil plights
And comdom-nation of others! And what  say I of myself?

I’m america too, an isolatoe, but I think that think my nation
Hates thinking, knockout those with something to give

Wrap nature in disposable diapers and talcum the
Consciences by proclaiming I am

Not me! Swear it doesn’t hurt though the drought burns
Our pink skins like sonic insults! Independence day

Fade away like a pipe bomb, like a tummy ache, like
A cramp in the side, and shatter our illusory caskets!

Brushed by rushing trucks and arabesque shoplights it

"Peter the Great (Catalan: Pere el Gran, Aragonese: Pero lo Gran; 1239 – 11 November 1285)[1] was the King of Aragon (as Peter III) of Valencia (as Peter I), and Count of Barcelona (as Peter II) from 1276 to his death, (this union of kingdoms was called the Crown of Aragon).

At the invitation of some rebels, he conquered Sicily and became its king in 1282, pressing the claim of his wife, Constance of Hohenstaufen, uniting the kingdom to the crown. He was one of the greatest of medieval Aragonese monarchs."

_______________

KNID 107.1 FM is a country music radio station licensed to North Enid, Oklahoma. Previously, the station was broadcast on 99.7 FM, and until 2000, at 96.9 FM (now KQOB).

KXLS called itself "Class FM," and gained national attention in the summer of 1982 for its "Zumma Beach" promotion. A hot tub was set up outside the station door, with sand surrounding it to give the impression of an oceanside beach hundreds of miles from the coast. The station also won Oklahoma Associated Press awards for its newscasts in 1983.

Lacy sold KXLS for several million dollars to Larry Steckline in the mid-1980s. This allowed Steckline to expand his Mid-America Agri-Net. During that same time, the station went off the air for several weeks when its tower in Helena, Oklahoma collapsed

KZLS (1640 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a News/Talk format. Licensed to Enid, Oklahoma, United States, the station is currently owned by Chisholm Trail Broadcasting Co

KNAH is a radio station airing a Classic Country format from Envision Radio Networks Hank FM branding licensed to Mustang, Oklahoma, broadcasting on 99.7 MHz FM. The station serves the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, and is owned by Champlin Broadcasting, Inc.
May 26, 2023, the then-KNAH rebranded as "99.7 The Wolf", and shifted its playlist to include more current country music, while still maintaining a classic-heavy focus.  The station changed its call sign to KWFF on July 2, 2023.

KQOB (96.9 FM, "Fun 96.9") is a classic hits radio station serving the Oklahoma City area and is owned by Champlin Broadcasting. The station is currently in a LMA with Cumulus Media. Its studios are in Northwest Oklahoma City, and the transmitter is in unincorporated Kingfisher County.
