"With his blue collar past and mean self-deprecating streak, Hurley embodied the Northwest creative ethos as much as anyone.
An exemplary cast of local musicians — Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie,
Rachel Blumberg of The Decemberists
and composer Robin Holcomb,
among others — will pay tribute to his catalog at
the Tractor Tavern on June 15 with “O My Stars: The Music of Michael Hurley.”
'No one said, nah, Hurley, I don’t like him,” Horvitz said.
“Everyone wanted to do it.”
The Tractor concert will run like a musical variety show, with a house band (featuring bassist Abbey Blackwell), solo acts and smaller musical configurations."
"The people I know who know about his music seem to feel like he’s one of the deeper songwriters of our times,”
Holcomb said.
“His music is tender but really hilarious.”
