Joe Hill of beans

"Beans have often been thought of as a food of the poor, as small farmers ate grains, vegetables, and got their protein from beans, while the wealthier classes were able to afford meat while buying it ready in styrofoam, avoiding guts,  i.e.  reality, and such"

"The Oregon jumping bean is a segment of a seed pod occupied by the larva of the moth Cydia saltitans, and sold as a novelty.

The pods start to jump when warmed in the palm of the hand. Scientists have suggested that the random walk that results may help the larva to find shade and so to survive on hot days"

"Beans are a versatile and nutritious staple, providing protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals.
Beans are particularly important in many regions and are a dietary staple for millions of people worldwide. "

"bean is the seed of any plant in the legume family (Fabaceae) used as a vegetable for human consumption or animal feed.

The seeds are often preserved through drying, but fresh beans are also sold. Most beans are traditionally soaked and boiled, but they can be cooked in many different ways, including frying and baking, and

are used in many traditional dishes throughout the world.

The unripe seedpods of some varieties are also eaten whole as green beans or edamame (immature soybean)"

"Beans in an early cultivated form were grown in Thailand from the early seventh millennium BCE, predating ceramics.

Beans were deposited with the dead in ancient Egypt. "

Beans can be cooked in a wide variety of casseroles, curries, salads, soups, and stews.

They can be served whole or mashed alongside meat or toast, or included in an omelette or a flatbread wrap.

Other options are to include them in a bake with a cheese sauce, a Mexican-style chili con carne, or to use them as a meat substitute in a burger or in falafels.

Soybeans can be processed into bean curd (tofu)

or fermented into a cake (tempeh);

these can be eaten fried or roasted like meat, or included in stir-fries, curries, and soups.

*Most dry beans contain 21-25% protein by weight;

*dry soybeans are 36.5% protein by weight."

India:

Chickpeas, lentils, and kidney beans are staples in Indian cuisine, used in dishes like dal, curries, and chana masala.

Africa:

Black-eyed peas, kidney beans, and cowpeas are widely consumed in African cuisines, often used in soups, stews, and starchy dishes.

Mexico:

Beans are a major part of the Mexican diet, particularly in dishes like frijoles refritos and chilaquiles.

Europe:

Pasta e fagioli, cassoulet, and baked beans on toast are examples of bean-based dishes popular in European cuisines.

United States:

Red beans and rice, baked beans, and chili are popular bean dishes in the US.

India currently leads the world in beans consumption, with

5,600 thousand metric tons in 2021.     (  12,345,886.7 pounds, dumbass)

Brazil, Mexico and the United States follow in second, third and fourth place

1 trillion semantics

"Back in January, Prince Mohammed said that Saudi Arabia would invest $600 billion

(£450bn) in the US over the next years.

However, Trump has already said that he'd like that to rise to

$1 trillion, including purchases of more US military equipment.

Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment fund (PIF), which controls assets worth $925bn, already has numerous investments in the US.

These include Uber,

gaming firm Electronic Arts, and electric car firm Lucid.

Meanwhile, the UAE has already committed to investing $1.4tn in the US over the next 10 years, in sectors such as AI, semiconductors, energy and manufacturing "

"politicians have accused the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of reopening the detention facility, in contravention of local ordinances and without the necessary permits.

It is the largest such facility in the north-eastern US,

and was the first to open after Trump’s second term of office began in January,

 according to the Ice website."

"federal officials blocked his entry, a heated argument broke out, according to Viri Martinez, an activist with

the New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice.

It continued even after Baraka returned to the public side of the gates.

“There was yelling and pushing,” Martinez said. “Then the officers swarmed Baraka.

They threw one of the organizers to the ground.

They put Baraka in handcuffs and put him in an unmarked car.”

" Ice is out of control,” she said. “Ice thinks it can intimidate all of us. And it cannot intimidate any of us. And

mayor of Newark, New Jersey.

"Newark native, Baraka is the son of poet and activist

"Baraka was featured on singer Lauryn Hill's 1998 The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, as the narrator of several interludes on the album.

He also recorded the intro to The Score, the Fugees' second album. "

"He succeeded Luis A. Quintana, who was completing the term of Cory Booker, who had resigned after being elected to the United States Senate in October 2013"

Politico has described Baraka as "one of the most progressive Democrats in New Jersey, and possibly the nation"

Richard the Second as isis

flower sculpture as free range

"The Winningstad is a flexible, intimate, courtyard-style theater that plays host to a wide variety of performers. With 304 seats, the seating and stage can be set in a variety of ways to allow for truly unique experiences. Performances in the venue can extend off the stage and into the balconies, and seats can be removed to create additional staging areas. In a sense, the whole room is a stage, and the audiences become part of the drama."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_III_of_England

"raditionally, Shakespeare distinguishes social classes by having the upper classes speak in poetry while the lower classes speak in prose. In Richard II, there is no prose, but Richard uses flowery, metaphorical language in his speeches, whereas Bolingbroke, also of the noble class, uses a more plain and direct language. Shakespeare uses lengthy verses, metaphors, similes and soliloquies to delineate Richard's character as analytical rather than active. He always speaks in tropes, using analogies such as the sun as a symbol of his kingly status. Richard is obsessed with symbols: his crown, the symbol of his royal power, is of more concern to him than his actual kingly duties"

Stint Hurley

Two shows I played with Michael Hurley, Holocene and Cherry Sprout Market. Sprout was packed with admiring young audience sitting rapt on floor. Snock started playing the piano and did several. I flailed on fiddle, he never mentioned it. The one poor, in my opinion, segment of performance from me in our 30-40 shows, as he played piano. I saw a video of it and was aghast.

The Holocene show was our second time there, or first of two shows I got to join Snock/Reisch.  Sally Ford opened for Michael. Are you kidding? She's something else.

"Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside was an American rock band from Portland, Oregon.

The band has been described as "Rockabilly", or as having a "raw soul" 1950s rock-and-roll energy sound. Sallie Ford describes it as "Rock n Roll" and that people find it "more rockin’ than they expected."

The group received positive reviews from USA Today's music critic Whitney Matheson and from The Oregonian critic Ryan White.

In 2011, they signed a record deal with Partisan Records and released their first full-length CD Dirty Radio in May, began a US tour in June, and in August,

performed on the Late Show with David Letterman."

Some bands/performers Michael opened for, or shared the bill with, in my near two year stint with Snock

Pickathon---- so many other bands

Batwater----many others

The show with Terry Robb was a house party. Played alongside Alexa Wiley several times too, and Jake Ray. I organized the Maryhill Museum music one year and featured Jake solo on a set, Hurley/ Forest the next.

Alberta Street Pub, that followed a house party in Eugene, Alexa played both and I played with both her, Hurley.

Laurelthirst Pub 3 different shows.

The Mint Erin Glenn winery, the Dalles, twice

Papa G 's vegan deli, Portland, Snock  played 2-3 times (forest accompany)

Michael Hurley at Ekone, outside Goldendale, Wa

The Press Club, Hurley/Forest played 3-4 times. Sometimes with Reisch too

I don't have access to some photos or the recordings I made. Snock played at the Last Chance Barn Dance, I talked him into that one. He had a hoot, went on for three days. Two dozen bands? Don't remember exactly. Quick and Easy Boys were there, from a car crash in Hood River I think.

(Add more or redact as  time wanders on)

Oh, Snock opened for Jolie Holland at Ace Cleaners Hotel. Lewi/Forest accompany Snock

Hurley/Reisch/Forest opened for the Decemberists in Astoria, Liberty Hall

2-3 Hurley shows at Astoria Visual Arts center, several people opened those shows, including Wiley.

Blue Catfish studios, Astoria

Mississippi Studios, Snock/Forest opened for Vetiver.  Played together for Antonia celebration on another occasion.

" The Rise of the Submission Industrial Complex "

"the data we see at Chill Subs, our platform that tracks thousands of literary magazines and submission calls, paints a pretty clear picture:

submission fees aren’t the exception anymore, they’re the rule at the top.

Across all the literary magazines we track, about 13% charge fees.

Zoom in on Brecht De Poortere’s top 1000, and that number jumps to 24%.

Narrow it further to just the top 100 most popular magazines, and it spikes to 56%.

That’s not a slippery slope. It’s a cliff. The higher the prestige, the more likely it is that writers are paying just to be considered."

"By 2015, several of the top names in the industry, including Ploughshares and American Short Fiction, had begun charging fees.

And it snowballed from there. You can see the appeal. Multiply that $1.86 by thousands of submissions per month and it becomes one of the only consistent revenue streams a lit mag can rely on."

"Karan Kapoor, a writer from India, explains:

When I first started sending out work about six years ago, it was brutal. A $3 submission fee (slowly becoming $5) might seem like pocket change in the U.S.,

but thanks to conversion rates and a little thing called late-stage capitalism,

in India it can buy you a full meal, a rickshaw ride to and back from the restaurant,

and a lecture from your mom about saving money. If you’re submitting to 100 magazines a year—which, let’s be honest, is what it takes to get two or three acceptances if you’re lucky (and I do mean lucky, not talented)—that’s $300. "

*

"Benjamin Davis is the cofounder of Chill Subs, a platform used by over 50,000 writers to discover, track, and submit to literary magazines.

He runs Sub Club, a top-selling Substack newsletter about opportunities in literary publishing, and co-created Forever Workshop, a monthly writing education series.

His work in the literary community has been featured in Electric Literature, Publishers Weekly, and Brevity and he’s written about the economics of indie publishing for Lit Mag News, The Writer’s Co-op, and more."

'Cain is a biblical figure (Myth) in the Book of Genesis within Abrahamic religions. He is the elder brother of Abel, and the firstborn son of Adam and Eve, the first couple within the Bible. He was a farmer who gave an offering of his crops to God."

"Noteworthy is the difference in the type of sacrifice: fruits of the soil are renewable and bloodless, while fat portions are set apart for the Lard

"immaterial unmoved movers are eternal unchangeable beings that constantly think about thinking,

but being immaterial,

they are incapable of interacting with the cosmos and have no knowledge of what transpires therein.  "

"An infinite regress argument attempts to establish the falsity of a proposition by showing that it entails an infinite regress that is vicious.

The cosmological argument is a type of positive infinite regress argument given that it defends a proposition (in this case, the existence of a first cause) by arguing that its negation would lead to a vicious regress.

An infinite regress may be vicious due to various reasons:

Impossibility:

Thought experiments such as Hilbert's Hotel are cited to demonstrate the metaphysical impossibility of actual infinities existing in reality.

Accordingly, it may be argued that an infinite causal or temporal regress cannot occur in the real world.

Implausibility:    The regress contradicts empirical evidence

(e.g. for the finitude of the past)

 or basic principles such as

Occam's razor.

Explanatory failure:    A failure of explanatory goals resulting in an infinite regress of explanations. .

This may arise in the case of logical fallacies such as begging the question or from an attempt to investigate causes concerning origins or fundamental principles"

*

" A cosmological argument can also sometimes be referred to as an argument from universal causation, an argument from first cause, the causal argument or the prime mover argument."

"In the philosophy of religion, a cosmological argument is an argument for the existence of god based upon

observational and factual statements concerning the universe (or some general category of its natural contents)

typically in the context of causation, change, contingency or finitude.

In referring to reason and observation alone for its premises, and

precluding revelation,

this category of argument falls within the domain of natural theology."

'In a finite hotel, if the hotel is full, there are no more rooms available. However, in Hilbert's Hotel, even when full, there's always a way to make room for a new guest due to the properties of infinite sets. "

Suppose the hotel is next to an ocean, and an infinite number of car ferries arrive, each bearing an infinite number of coaches, each with an infinite number of passengers. This is a situation involving three "levels" of infinity, and it can be solved by extensions of any of the previous solutions.

*

"in an ordinary (finite) hotel with more than one room, the number of odd-numbered rooms is obviously smaller than the total number of rooms.

However, in Hilbert's Grand Hotel, the quantity of odd-numbered rooms is not smaller than the total "number" of rooms"

"Hilbert's paradox is a veridical paradox: it leads to a counter-intuitive result that is provably true. "

"veridical paradox produces a result that appears counter to intuition, but is demonstrated to be true nonetheless:

That the Earth is an approximately spherical object

that is rotating and in rapid motion around the Sun,

rather than the apparently obvious and common-sensical appearance of the Earth as a stationary approximately flat plane illuminated by a Sun that rises and falls throughout the day."

"In logic, many paradoxes exist that are known to be invalid arguments, yet are nevertheless valuable in promoting critical thinking, while other paradoxes have revealed errors in definitions that were assumed to be rigorous, and have caused axioms of mathematics and logic to be re-examined.

One example is Russell's paradox, which questions whether a

"list of all lists that do not contain themselves"

would include itself and showed that attempts to found set theory on the identification of sets with

properties or predicates were flawed."

"Examples outside logic include the ship of Theseus from philosophy, a paradox that questions

whether a ship repaired over time by replacing each and all of its wooden parts

one at a time would remain the same ship."

___

"What the Tortoise Said to Achilles", written by Lewis Carroll in 1895 for the philosophical journal Mind, is a brief allegorical dialogue on the foundations of logic.

The title alludes to one of Zeno's paradoxes of motion, in which Achilles could never overtake the tortoise in a race. "

"In Carroll's dialogue, the tortoise challenges Achilles to use the force of logic to make him accept the conclusion of a simple deductive argument.

Ultimately, Achilles fails, because the clever tortoise leads him into an infinite regression"

some fly to a cheapness of comfort i detest,

others toughen themselves with

a creosote of the true voyager, those who simply move

to get gone, cheeks

bulged with adrenaline and bongsmoke, locomotive

heart thudding into a nasty harmonic groove,

butt shaking with hands trying to keep the harmonica from

jetting away. and their plans

were well oiled by lawrence longhairs and the art institute

so off he chugs from the open elements,

"The etymology of "pool" is uncertain. The Oxford English Dictionary speculates that "pool" and other games with collective stakes is derived from the French poule

(literally translated "hen"), in which the poule is the collected prize, originating from jeu de la poule,

a game that is thought to have been played during the Middle Ages.

Supposedly, participants would put an equal amount of money into a pot

and throw stones at a live chicken,

and the person who successfully hit the chicken

first would win the pooled money."

"Billiards has a long history from its inception in the 15th century, with many mentions in the works of Shakespeare, including the line "let's to billiards" in Antony and Cleopatra (1606–07).

Enthusiasts of the sport have included Mozart, Louis XIV of France, Marie Antoinette, Immanuel Kant, Napoleon, Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, George Washington, Jules Grévy, Charles Dickens, George Armstrong Custer, Theodore Roosevelt, Lewis Carroll, W. C. Fields, Babe Ruth, Bob Hope, and Jackie Gleason."

the term's origin could have been from French bille, meaning 'ball "

Cue itself came from queue, the French word for 'tail "

"A recognizable form of billiards was played outdoors in the 1340s, and was reminiscent of croquet. King Louis XI of France (1461–1483) had the first known indoor billiard table."

the 'royal game of fortifications'

"the United States, pool and billiards had died out for a bit, but between 1878 and 1956 the games became very popular.

Players in annual championships began to receive their own cigarette cards. This was mainly due to the fact that it was a popular pastime for troops to take their minds off battle.

However, by the end of World War II, pool and billiards began to die down once again.

It was not until 1961 when the film The Hustler came out that sparked a new interest in the game. "

"early balls were made from wood and clay, but the rich preferred to use ivory.".

"The Guide for the Perplexed

was originally written sometime between 1185 and 1190 by Maimonides

It was first translated in 1204 into Hebrew by a contemporary of Maimonides, Samuel ibn Tibbon.

The work is divided into three parts. According to Maimonides, he wrote the Guide "to enlighten a religious man who has been trained to believe in the truth of our holy Law, who conscientiously fulfills his moral and religious duties, and at the same time has been successful in his philosophical studies"

"The part begins with Maimonides' thesis of the unity, omnipresence, and incorporeality of God,

explaining biblical anthropomorphism of divine attributes

as homonymous or figurative.

The first chapter explains the Genesis 1 description of Adam the first as in the "image of God",

as referring to the intellectual perception of humankind

rather than physical form.

In the Bible, one can find many expressions that refer to God in human terms, for instance the "hand of God".

Maimonides strongly opposed what he believed to be a heresy present in unlearned Jews who then assume God to be corporeal

(or even possessing positive characteristics)."

This leads to Maimonides' notion that God cannot be described in any positive terms, but rather only in negative conceptions.

The Jewish Encyclopedia notes his view that "As to His essence, the only way to describe it is negatively.

For instance, He is not physical, nor bound by time, nor subject to change, etc.

These assertions do not involve any incorrect notions or assume any deficiency,

while if positive essential attributes are admitted it may be assumed that other things coexisted with Him from eternity."

"Unrestrained anthropomorphism

and perception of positive attributes is seen as a transgression as serious as idolatry,

because both are fundamental errors in the metaphysics of God's role in the universe, and that is

the most important aspect of the world."

"The Spheres are essentially pure Intelligences who receive power from the Prime Mover.

This energy overflows from each one to the next and finally reaches earth and the physical domain.

This concept of intelligent spheres of existence also appears in Gnostic Christianity as Aeons, having been conceived at least eight hundred years before Maimonides. "

The Holocaust

(/ˈhɒləkɔːst/ ⓘ),[1] known in Hebrew as the Shoah (שואה),

was the genocide of European Jews during World War II..

Between 1941 and 1945, Nazi Germany and its collaborators systematically murdered some six million Jews across German-occupied Europe, around two-thirds of Europe's Jewish population.

The murders were carried out primarily through mass shootings and poison gas in extermination camps,

chiefly Auschwitz-Birkenau, Treblinka, Belzec, Sobibor, and Chełmno in occupied Poland.

 Separate Nazi persecutions

killed a similar or larger number

of non-Jewish civilians and prisoners of war (POWs)"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victims_of_Nazi_Germany

"Victims of Nazi Germany were people targeted by the government of Nazi Germany based on their ethnicity,

religion, political beliefs,

disability or sexual orientation.

The institutionalized practice by the Nazis of singling out and persecuting people resulted in the Holocaust,

which began with legalized social discrimination against specific groups

 involuntary hospitalization,

euthanasia, and forced sterilization.

of persons considered physically or mentally unfit for society.

The vast majority of the Nazi regime's victims were Jews, Sinti-Roma peoples, and Slavs but

victims also encompassed people identified as social outsiders

in the Nazi worldview, such as homosexuals, and political enemies.

Nazi persecution escalated during World War II and included: non-judicial incarceration,

confiscation of property,

forced labor,

sexual slavery,

death through overwork,

human experimentation,

 undernourishment,

and execution through a variety of methods.

For specified groups like the Jews, genocide was the Nazis' primary goal."

Taking into account all of the victims of persecution, the Nazis systematically murdered an estimated six million Jews

and an additional 11 million people during the war.

Donald Niewyk suggests that the broadest definition, including Soviet civilian deaths, would produce a total of

17 million victims

ancestry who identified as a Jehovah's Witness.

"Non-Jewish victims of Nazism included Slavs

(e.g. Russians, Belarusians, Poles, Ukrainians and Serbs),

the Romani (gypsies), LGBT people;

mentally or physically disabled people;

Soviet POWs, Roman Catholics, Jehovah's Witnesses, Spanish Republicans,

Freemasons, people of color (especially the Afro-German Mischlinge, called "Rhineland bastards" by Hitler and the Nazi regime),

and other minorities not considered Aryan (Herrenvolk, or part of the "master race")
