byte sized tomb

at mayabel the huts slowly rock
the howler monkeys sing and shake the giant mushroom trees
the leopards unseen slink under flutes
hammocks built for samoan sized tourists
harbor me and two women who like Neruda
built over a thousand years of composted frogs and fern skin
a snake fills the all night cafe, no walls,
thirty feet long to feed the music of the jungle
if only we'd hoped the fence
to roam the stone pyramids, paid the night guard off,
i took my ticket down legit
by day into Pacal's tomb
not a claustrophobic spider byte sized to fit
into the stone solitude
and do mystic math for the pleasure of the labyrinth
called to play, i play
the game rolls snake eyes
