'Jacob L. Lehman  

was born March 12, 1732/1733 

in Athens, Greene County, NY 

 son of Clement and Gertraudt (Wolfe) Lehman of Athens, NY 

 Jacob Lehman was baptized April 1, 1733 in Loonenburg, Greene County, sponsors were JacobMaul and Anna Dorothea at Newton.   

The Loonenburg Lutheran church booklists Jacob Lehman as being confirmed April 17, 1748 in Kisket, witnesses were Hinrich and Anna Schram.  

Various spellings for Lehman Include Leeman, Leman, Laman, Layman, and Lehmann.

During the Revolutionary War, members of the Dutch Reformed Church Catskill were strong in the Whig party.  

There were incidences of neighbors who were Tories, disguised as Indians they burned homes and kidnapped the active Whig church members taking them as prisoners to Canada."
