6.  Ghost Riders in the Sky

"An old cowboy went riding out one dark and windy day
Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way
When all at once a mighty herd of red eyed cows he saw
A-plowing through the ragged sky and up the cloudy draw
Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel
Their horns were black and shiny and their hot breath he could feel
A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky
For he saw the riders coming hard and he heard their mournful cry
Yippie yi ooh
Yippie yi yay
Ghost riders in the sky
Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred, their shirts all soaked with sweat
He's riding hard to catch that herd, but he ain't caught 'em yet
'Cause they've got to ride forever on that range up in the sky
On horses snorting fire
As they ride on hear their cry
As the riders loped on by him he heard one call his name
If you want to save your soul from hell a-riding on our range
Then cowboy change your ways today or with us you will ride
Trying to catch the devil's herd, across these endless skies
Yippie yi ooh
Yippie yi yay
Ghost riders in the sky
Ghost riders in the sky
Ghost Riders in the sky

"Lyrics
Headed down life's crooked road lot of things I never knowed
And because of me not knowing I now pine
Trouble's got in the trail spent the next five years in jail
Should have read that detour sign
Detour there's a muddy road ahead detour paid no mind to what it said
Detour oh these bitter things I find should have read that detour sign
When I got right to the place where it said about face
I thought that all my worries were behind
But the father I go the more sorrow
I know I should have read that detour sign
Detour there's a muddy road
Detour there's a muddy road
Should have read that detour sign"

10.  Twilight Zone
     "Everything is weird
Turning out just like I feared
Someone calling in a nightmare tone
I don't want to live in the twilight zone
I don't want to live in the twilight zone
Please, send a letter of reprieve

Door knob turning round and round
Blue ghost drifting slowly down
Voice keeps calling in a nightmare tone
I don't want to live in the twilight zone
I don't want to live in the twilight zone
Please, send a letter of reprieve

Darling, why don't you send me that old letter of reprieve?
You know, the blue ghost got his fingers on me
But I want to leave
I don't like it here at all
Help me make my escape
You know I just seen something coming

nd it looks like a ten-foot ape

I don't want to live in the twilight zone

Please, send a letter of reprieve

You know, I hear those chains dragging
And they getting closer
So I guess this must be a ghost
Or else it's a Gösser

You know the werewolf was by tonight
But he didn't look so well
And I guess this must be Count Dracula now
Ringing at the front door bell

Door knob turning round and round
The blue ghost drifting slowly down
A voice keeps calling in a nightmare tone
I don't want to live in the twilight zone
I don't want to live in the twilight zone
Please, send a letter of reprieve

12. You Got To Quit Kicking My Dog Around

(Jimmy Driftwood)

Me and Lim Brick and Old Bill Brown
Takin’ a load of corn to town
My Old Jim Dog, the darned old cuss
He just naturally followed us

As we drove by Sam Johnson’s door
Passed and cursed him out the door
Jim, he’s good behind the box
And all them fellers are throwin’ rocks

Refrain:
Every time I go to town
The boys keep a-kickin’ my dog around
Makes no difference if he is a hound
You got to quit kicking my dog around

-Solo-

They tied a can to Old Jim’s tail
Running him around the count jail
That made us a-dead burned sore
Lim, he cussed and Bill, he swore

Me and Lim Brick and Old Bill Brown
Lost no time a-get them down
We lost them fellers on the ground
For kicking my Old Jim Dog around

Refrain: -Solo-

Jim saw his duty there and then
He tore ‘em to them gentlemen
He sure messed up the courthouse square
With the rags and meat and the hide and hair

The Sheriff came and stopped the fuss
And all them boys shook hands with us
We gathered ‘round that load of corn
And every man had a healthy horn

Refrain: -Solo-

Old Jim Dog is worth much cash
But I can tell you, he ain’t no trash
He wakes me up before the break of day
And he keeps them revenue-boys away

He’s the best old dog, you ever did see
Wherever I go, he follows me
His voice is sweet, his name is Jim
He’d fight for me and I’d for him

Joe Hill, Preacher and the Slave

"Joe Hill (Gävle, Sweden, October 7, 1879 – Salt Lake City, Utah, November 19, 1915), born Joel Emmanuel Hägglund and also known as Joseph Hillström,[1] was a Swedish-American labor activist, songwriter, and member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW, familiarly called the "Wobblies").[2] A native Swedish speaker, he learned English during the early 1900s, while working various jobs from New York to San Francisco.[3

] Hill, an immigrant worker frequently facing unemployment and underemployment, became a popular songwriter and cartoonist for the union.

His most famous songs include "The Preacher and the Slave" (in which he coined the phrase "pie in the sky"),[4] "The Tramp", "There is Power in a Union", "The Rebel Girl", and "Casey Jones—the Union Scab", which express the harsh and combative life of itinerant workers, and call for workers to organize their efforts to improve working conditions.[5]

In 1914, John G. Morrison, a Salt Lake City area grocer and former policeman, and his son were shot and killed by two men.[6] The same evening, Hill arrived at a doctor's office with a gunshot wound, and briefly mentioned a fight over a woman.
_______________________________
Yet Hill refused to explain further, even after he was accused of the grocery store murders on the basis of his injury. Hill was convicted of the murders in a controversial trial. Following an unsuccessful appeal, political debates, and international calls for clemency from high-profile figures and workers' organizations, Hill was executed in November 1915.

" the last of Hill's ashes (but not the envelope that contained them) was turned over to the IWW in 1988. The weekly In These Times ran notice of the ashes and invited readers to suggest what should be done with them.

Suggestions varied from enshrining them at the AFL-CIO headquarters in Washington, DC to Abbie Hoffman's suggestion that they be eaten by today's "Joe Hills" like Billy Bragg and Michelle Shocked. "

Bragg did indeed swallow a small bit of the ashes with some Union beer to wash it down, and for a time carried Shocked's share for the eventual completion of Hoffman's last prank

"In 1990, while living in Austin, Barnes formed the Bad Livers with bassist Mark Rubin and fiddler Ralph White. The band's 1992 debut album, Delusions of Banjer, was produced by Paul Leary of the Butthole Surfers and released on Quarterstick Records. It gained the band some attention in the alt-rock-country scene; they followed it up with another album for Quarterstick, Horses in the Mines, released in 1994.

The band then released three albums on the Sugar Hill Records label. During his tenure with the Bad Livers, he was acclaimed as "a prodigiously talented picker, and a glorious singer"[12] with "an ideal bluegrass voice.""

Laurelthirst, Michael Hurley (forest bloodgood 2010. tea song.

"The Preacher and the Slave" is a song written by Joe Hill in 1911. It was written as a parody of the hymn "In the Sweet By-and-By". The Industrial Workers of the World (commonly known as the Wobblies) concentrated much of its labor trying to organize migrant workers in lumber and construction camps. When the workers returned to the cities, the Wobblies faced the Salvation Army (which they satirized as the "Starvation Army").[1] Hill had first encountered the Salvation Army in Sweden when he was a child.[2]

Several songs were written parodying the Salvation Army's hymns, "The Preacher and the Slave" being the most successful. In this song, Joe Hill coined the phrase "pie in the sky."[3] The song is often referred to as "Pie in the Sky", or as "Long Haired Preachers" (which was its original title).[4] It was first published in the 4th edition of the Little Red Songbook in 1911.[forest, isis, surreal

"And now I see the wind
Blowin' from Northwest
I hear them Honkers again
On their rambling quest

Over Lord's Valley I roll like a ball
And in the wind I hear them call
Wild goose, loose goose, I count them all

Yonder stepping that ol' lighten-walkin' wolf
Hungry as always
Long legs and long ears and tail
And a long, long will

I had no goose and I tried to keep her
And she awake and I'm the sleeper
She flew away left me the weeper

But there ain't no chills cold wind
Blowin' through our love nest
I feel your heart beat again
In the Wilderness

I had no goose and I tried to claim her
It's only in the wildness, can you name her
It's only in the wildness, can you tame her"

That looked like Eldorado.

pawnee bill stonemasonry

Gordon William Lillie (February 14, 1860 – February 3, 1942), known professionally as Pawnee Bill, was an American showman and performer who specialized in Wild West shows and was known for his short partnership with Buffalo Bill.

In 1888, the Lillies launched their own Wild West show, which they called "Pawnee Bill’s Historic Wild West". May starred in the show as the "Champion Girl Horseback Shot of the West." Their first season was a financial disaster.

They re-organized as a smaller operation called "Pawnee Bill’s Historical Wild West Indian Museum and Encampment Show." That show was popular and financially successful. Lillie added Jose Barrera to the cast; he was widely popular performing as "Mexican Joe".

In 1907, Lillie hired performers from a variety of backgrounds. The show included Mexican cowboys, Pawnee, Japanese performers, and Arab jugglers.

Pawnee Bill invested in banking, real estate, and oil. He operated various business interests and dabbled in film making at his ranch. In 1930, May and Pawnee Bill opened Pawnee Bill’s Old Town near the ranch. They sold Indian and Mexican crafts, and featured annual rodeos. That enterprise burned to the ground in the 1940s and was never rebuilt.

In 1936, the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Taos, New Mexico. In September of that year they attended a local celebration in Tulsa, Oklahoma. While driving back to their ranch that night, Pawnee Bill lost control of their vehicle. May died as a result of her injuries, and Pawnee Bill never fully recovered. He died in his sleep on February 3, 1942, at the age of 81 in his home outside of Pawnee, Oklahoma.
______________

Pawnee Bill believed strongly in the importance of the bison to the history of the American West and to the Plains Indian culture. He desired to perpetuate and develop the bison and lobbied congress to pass legislation to protect the animal.[3] This was the beginning of the ranch's time as a bison preservation. The ranch is an active member of the Oklahoma Bison Association today.

In December 1910, Lillie and his wife May's dream of a home on top of a hill overlooking a bend in the Black Bear River was realized.[4] The building of their Tudor-style Arts and Crafts home was completed after nearly a year of construction. James Hamilton, an architect from Chester, Pennsylvania, designed the home with input from Lillie and his wife. The home was a beautiful crafted residence, both comfortable and modern. Area laborers worked to construct the nearly 5,300 square feet (490 m2) home from native stone quarried from the Ranch grounds.[2]

Between the years of 1910 and 1926, many other buildings were added to the ranch site. Between 1910 and 1913 the carriage house, log cabin, blacksmith shop, and observation tower were added to the site by the Lillies to accommodate their growing businesses.[1] In 1926, to meet the need for larger livestock accommodations, the Lillies built an impressive three story barn. The barn housed Pawnee Bill's herd of Scottish Shorthorn cattle. Its basement level sheltered the ranch horses while the second floor provided housing for the cattle. The top was used as storage for alfalfa and other feed crops harvested from the ranch property.

On October 10, 1975, the site was included on the National Register of Historic Places under the original title of Blue Hawk Peak Ranch.[2

dumb ass played on the porch
for hours, scrounging coors
from those who lost at horseshoes
there at the hideaway cabin
where i broke my nose
dove into the two foot lake
thanks garth.

phebe, primal font of all knowledge in the cosmos

"Phoebe was traditionally associated with the moon (see Selene), as in Michael Drayton's Endimion and Phœbe (1595), the first extended treatment of the Endymion myth in English.

Her consort was her brother Coeus, with whom she had two daughters, Leto, who bore Apollo and Artemis, and Asteria, a star-goddess who bore an only daughter Hecate.

Given the meaning of her name and her association with the Delphic oracle, Phoebe was perhaps seen as the Titan goddess of prophecy and oracular intellect.

Given that Phoebe symbolized prophetic wisdom
just as Coeus represented rational intelligence,

the couple may have possibly functioned together
 as the primal font

of all knowledge in the cosmos."

President Trump is exempting Citgo Petroleum Corp., owned by Venezuela’s government, from the financial sanctions imposed Friday on the country.

The latest set of sanctions is meant to punish the government of President Nicolás Maduro as it moves to rewrite the country’s constitution and consolidate his power. To that end, the sanctions seek to exclude the Venezuelan government from the United States’ economy, including its markets and capital, and to make sure the U.S. does not assist the Maduro government.

But Citgo, an oil refiner, retailer and transporter based in the United States and owned by the government’s Petróleos de Venezuela, will get to operate largely as normal.

_________

“Oil refineries along the U.S. Gulf Coast that process the heavier grades of Venezuelan crude represent a significant portion, nearly 10 percent, of U.S. imports,” wrote Sens. Bill Cassidy (La.), John Cornyn (Texas), Thad Cochran (Miss.) and Roger Wicker (Miss.).

The former Champlin Refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas, which was purchased by PDVSA from Union Pacific was integrated into the CITGO refining network.

1990 Fox Television’s animated program “The Simpsons” made its television debut; “America’s Funniest Home Videos” was the most popular television show.

1990 CITGO became wholly owned by PDVSA.

Citgo has been cited by environmentalists for using crude oil from the Amazon region, at their Corpus Christi and Lake Charles refineries in particular. In 2015, the Corpus Christi refinery was processing 16,337 barrels of crude oil per day coming from the Amazonian rainforest.

Possible sale to Russia

Due to the poor state of Venezuela's economy that includes a high risk of default and a 2016 deal offering 49.9% of Citgo as collateral for a $1.5 billion loan to Russia, it is possible that the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela may give Citgo to Rosneft, Russia's government-run oil company.

Both Republicans and Democrats in the United States urged oversight on this deal, describing CITGO's sale to Russia as a risk to the national security of the United States.

"Giuliani, the former mayor of New York, is a long-time friend of Trump who was considered for several Cabinet posts. Mukasey was attorney general under President George W. Bush.

Giuliani and Mukasey avoided mentioning the “central role” of Iran in the charges against Zarrab on filings submitted to the court about their work and said the case had no serious implications for U.S. national security. Judge Richard Berman slammed the omissions as “disingenuous” earlier this year. (Giuliani previously called Iranians “suicidal homicidal maniacs.”)

Indeed, Georgia Representative John Lewis, a Democratic civil-rights pioneer and leader of the recent House sit-in, told CNN:

Sometimes you have to violate a rule of law to uphold a greater law, a moral law. We have a right to stand up, to speak up, to speak out. We have a right to sit down, or to sit-in, to engage in nonviolent protest. It is always right to do right.

Prevezon was represented at that appeal by Michael Mukasey, the former U.S. attorney general whose son, Marc, has been rumored as a potential replacement for Bharara in the Southern District.

(As if this wasn’t complicated enough: Michael Mukasey is also currently working along with Marc’s law partner, Rudy Giuliani, for Reza Zarrab, the Turk close with that country’s leadership charged by Bharara with busting Iran sanctions. The pair have told the judge in that case that they were retained to find an extrajudicial resolution—presumably meaning a deal between the Trump administration and Turkey—to get their client off the hook.)
