  1. Hello, cousin! I recognize the names in your blog post. We share Schermerhorn and related ancestors, I believe we would be 7th or 8th cousins. Via DNA I have matched up with several distant Shermerhorn cousins, (my ancestor Martjie Mary Maria Schermerhorn who married Jeremiah Doty/Doughty was a sister to your Helena Schermerhorn who married Daniel Selover.) And I also match up with one Selover/Schermerhorn relation, who would be related to you as well and a closer relation to you. He's a distance connection to me, 7th cousin, once removed, I think. But I have found it very cool to be able to connect up with so many distant cousins, all descended from the same Schermerhorn ancestors from so very long ago, who we all have been passed down through numerous generations, just enough of the same Schermerhorn DNA on the same chromosomes to be matches. Of course I have lots of Doty/Schermerhorn matches for most of them are from my closer Doty/Doughty line.
Nice to meet you cousin....even if only in cyberspace ;) Anna
